Dedicated to legendary Porsche Exec Peter Schultz

Peter Schutz, CEO Porsche AG  1930-2017 Rest In Peace

Porsche vs. Lambo Watch the video below!

The all-new 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has finally put the 911 ahead of the rest...by at least a half-second. Yet had it not been for legendary executive Peter Schutz, the 2018 911 GT2 RS would never exist. This article serves both to pay homage to the super exec Peter Schutz and to introduce you to maybe the fastest street-legal machine ever built, the all-new 911 GT2 RS by Porsche.

When Peter Schutz was hired as CEO of Porsche AG back in January of 1981 Porsche wasn’t doing so well and the 911 was seen as one of its biggest liabilities. The company was looking for ways to improve, mainly in cutbacks.  So it was decided, just a few weeks after Schutz was hired, the Legendary 911 model must go!

The new CEO immediately put his foot down. He refused to cut the 911 from the lineup. Instead Schutz insisted the model was still very popular and could be returned to its former days of glory. He demanded the companies engineers and designers take a closer look into the model and find ways to improve it, to bring back its deep rooted heritage.

In response the company did just that! Each year improving recreated the model. Over his brief 7 year reign as head of Porsche Schutz single-handedly brought the 911 back from the grave and placed it forever back in the spotlight.  We all know the rest. The 911 model went on to become one of the most successful sport scars ever produced, culminating in the all-new 2018 911 GT2 RS.

The 911 Model A perfect culmination of speed, design and power

Over the years I’m sure you, like the rest of us have watched the 911 evolve each year into a more and more complete automobile a perfectly balanced machine, built solely for speed. Known the world over the super popular model ironically now has the reverse effect where the numbers 9-1-1 now identify Porsche moreso than the other way around.  The Porsche 911 since its introduction has always epitomized the perfect “sportscar” a perfect balance of speed and control all at your fingertips. Although the competition continues to grow and new brands are introduced annually it seems, the Porsche 911 is still and will always be every mans “dream car”.

The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar - Perfect Movement From Point A To B

After 6 consecutive years of the legendary Porsche 911, it's official...
The new 2018 Range Rover Velar is my new "Desktop Background"!

Dedicated to my son Cassius...

Finally! Worldwide proper transportation for supreme individuals such as myself and others I prefer to move about with. A machine, A Land Rover, A Velar has been conceived, designed and produced that will forever redefine the Automotive category of Sport Utility Vehicle...The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar

Suitably fit to redefine luxurious travel the word over, the new Velar successfully offers an extremely luxurious way to move about on any and all global terrains.

Wearing its newly redesigned maxed out drag resistant aerodynamic design the '18 Velar truly is breathtaking at first sight. You immediately notice the gentle Italian accent ingrained courtesy of legendary Italian Stylist Massimo Frascella. The interior is just as stunning offering its driver and occupant(s) a perfect blend of power, comfort and technology all just a touch away.

Perfect movement from Point A to Point B, the 2018 Velar offers its owners a one of a kind blend of traditional style, ultra-modern design and innovative function all perfectly combined. Riding about in such an ultra-luxurious all-terrain Sport Utility Vehicle is Poetry In Motion.

Below is an excellent video offering an intimate look deep inside the Velar both inside and out. Range Rover did an excellent job of putting their expertise and experience into this video.

For a proper understanding and appreciation of the new '18 Velar take an intimate look at the Velar's unique one of a kind features and functions WATCH THE VIDEO...

At less than a 3rd the price of the current king of the "Ultra-Luxury SUV" division, the $262,655 Bentley Bentayga, the '18 Velar is in many opinions, not that far behind. Firmly seated atop its own "Compact Luxury Crossover and SUV" division. Although the difference in price is significant the two SUV's seem to have a lot in common.

Many of the Velar's beautiful design accents are from its close kinship to the Jaguar brand, Jaguar's influence can clearly be seen both in the Velar's interior and exterior hardware and its instruments. Range Rover did an excellent job of quietly adding outside influence(s) from the aforementioned legendary Italian Stylist Massimo Frascella and Jaguar while maintaining its own distinct originality.

Such unique one of a kind automotive ingenuity and function could be why the Velar currently has nice tight hold atop the slightly competitive (and fast growing) Compact Luxury Crossover/SUV division.

The fact that the new Velar will continue to dominate its, class division, its world...is nothing new... considering the "original" SUV, the Land Rover is 34 years old, and still going...

Below is quick price-list on the 5 hottest  Compact Luxury Crossover and SUV's on the market...

The '63 Chevy Corvette Stingray C2

Perfectly blended speed, design and aerodynamics in motion

Chevy Speed

In just 10 years Chevy had managed to go from the under powered ‘53 Corvette to the ultimate in speed and power the 427 L89 Big Block V8 which came under the hood (in some models) of the ‘63. Featuring a shorter wheelbase the big block V8 was a perfect fit along with the 4-Speed manual transmission which seemed to place the power in the hands of the driver, excellent suspension and superb handling.
Back in 1963 the Chevy Corvette Stingray C2 was designed as an intended glimpse into the future, the future of sportscars. 1963 was the 1st year production run for the C2 which ran from 1963-1967 before it was replace by the C3. Although it did have a some what short production life, the C2 was for its time, the futuristic 1960’s, a very successful model indeed. Developed to stay one step ahead in the ultra-competitive super fast world of 1960’s sportscars. The ‘63 Stingray did just that.

Corvette Design

At first sight the ‘63 Stingray is a beautiful car. But what makes it truly unique is the fact that it’s a beautiful automobile both inside and out. The interior of the ‘63 Stingray was not only one of the most the technologically advanced for its time but also one of the most beautiful. Once sitting inside the ‘63 Stingray only then could one feel its complete blend and balance of speed, design and aerodynamics. The dash motif was designed entirely different than before. It featured racing-style rounded gauges with the speedometer purposely over-sized and dead centered. Coupe-style seating comfortably enveloped both the driver and passenger, making it a true 2-passenger cockpit. The ‘63 had recaptured the lost art of “Driving”.

Stingray Aerodynamics

It was the 1960’s and a lot of today’s automotive technology was still unknown. Most of the major car makers where in fact in various stages of experimenting with the many aspects of the sportscar. Still trying to improve speed, handling, control and more most automakers made changes early and often. Aerodynamics eventually became one of the most popular areas of research, especially when it came to speed. It seemed the two, speed and aerodynamics had a normal natural relationship and worked together perfectly. The study of aerodynamics, although intended to improve speed, led to some of most popular design features ever created. Features such as hidden head lights, curvy windshieds, and so much more.

The competition was extremely fierce, Jaguars, Porsche’s and Ferrari's’ at the time were considered just as unique, just as beautiful and of course just as fast, if not more. Chevy, it seemed,, had a lot of ground to cover. And the competition was getting even more fierce. The carmakers of the 1960’s it seemed, not only wanted to build cars of the future, but from the horsepower being placed under the hood, they wanted to build cars that could possibly be driven into the future as well.

Better known as the second generation “Stingray” the ‘63 Stingray was from an aerodynamic standpoint, a beautiful car. Especially the “split-rear” model. In spite of intense world-wide competition, when it came to fast cars General motors had succeeded in getting ahead with the ‘63 Stingray.

The ‘63 was the 1st year the Stingray offered “independent rear suspension greatly improving handling and decreasing wheel-spin as well. Chevy, with its production of the 1963 Corvette Stingray C2, now had an official entry in the world-wide competition of fast cars. A superfast sports car able to compete on a world-wide scale. A perfect blend of speed, design and aerodynamics...in motion. Before the ‘63 Stingray no one had ever seen such a unique balance of beauty both inside and out offer such a superior ride?

General Motors had successfully gotten it right! With the introduction of the ‘63 Stingray, the competition had been both blindsided and put on notice. After a decade of tinkering Chevy finally had what it wanted, a fast Corvette, a Stingray. A Corvette that could easily crack 100 miles an hour and manhandle the ¼ mile or cruise comfortably along the beach at 30! Either way...the Chevy Corvette was here to stay.

Part One – The 1953 Chevy Corvette C1
An Under-powered Hand-Built Cruiser

The very first Corvette, the 1953 C1 was actually designed and created as a show car for the World-Famous Motorama of 1953 annually held in New York, as a display. It generated so much interest simply sitting as a display along with Tens of Thousands of inquiries, letters and telephone calls that followed months after. General Motors decided then and there to make it a full-blown production model and rushed into it production late into the 1953 auto year.

The Beginning
The Chevrolet Corvette C1 was introduced on June 30th 1953 and you could pick one up for a mere $3,490. Officially classified as Sports-Car by GM, the C1 was grossly underpowered, running on only a relatively small 235 cu in. engine, especially when compared to some of the massive powerplants being put under the hood of most the sports-cars of the day.
Considered more of an experiment, a sort of prototype as seen by many. The Corvettes 1st year was surprisingly a little shaky. Initially the C1 received mixed reviews from both consumers and auto-experts. Many said it was clearly due to the extremely small and underpowered power plant, the 235. Yet in a stroke of pure automotive luck, instead of being one of the fastest, the C1' was instantly recognized and classified as one of the most beautiful Hand-Built 2-Seat Convertible Cruisers ever produced! Yes, the 1st generation of Corvettes where and still is by many actually considered as Cruisers! That's right! Even though they were aiming to create a true “Speed-Demon” they instead in a single stroke defined cruising and also gave us one of the nicest convertible ever hand-built. A beautiful 2-Seater built in vivid contrasting color, head turning, eye catching colors. It was a car meant to be driven slowly, a true cruiser, a real head-turner, eye catcher.
The 53' Vette' was (and still is) a beautiful 2-Seater to look at both at a perfect standstill as well as in motion. With only 300 models produced, all hand-built. All 300 came in one design, one trim one that still turns heads to this day. A perfect Polo White exterior accented with Chrome stripping. The interiors all an “excited” vibrant Red which seemed to give the 2-Door a unique degree of excitement. The vibrant Red interior many drivers would later say was the most exciting part as it seemed to envelope you once you sat inside. Many believed the most beautiful part of '53 Vette overall was the Jet-Black Canvas Soft-Top, it seemed to do a fantastic job of bringing the car together. The Tires! It was the tires that actually tied it all together. Take a look at the “53 up close and you'll notice how the “White-Wall” tires is really what ties it all together. With a nice accented strip of coloring from each section of the car interior Red, exterior White and of course Soft-Top canvas Black.
Aside from getting such mixed reviews from consumers, the C1 for 1953 surprisingly also fell well short of GM's sales expectations. With such a rocky start and no real backing the program was nearly cancelled! We can all thank the automotive Gods. That GM quickly realized a few tweaks and adjustments made could dramatically increase speed and improve overall handling and performance on the upcoming 1954 model...and decided to give the Corvette one more year. Whew!
A year of learning. Even though the 1953 Corvette C1, seemed to miss its intended mark of going fast somehow it had unknowingly set the standard for Classic Cruisers. The following year however GM introduced an entirely new car, a Sports-Car. The “54 Corvette was the perfect example of “how to improve” a product...literally.
In hindsight most would say that the 53' C1 had done what it was made to do...make a splash! Little did any of us as owners, drivers or collectors know what Chevy really had in store for us in the very near future. Especially when it came to its instant new best-seller, the Corvette.

2016 Cadillac Escalade Platinum 4WD SUV - 4TH Generation On Top

The question...

Should I drop close to $100,000 on an SUV? I mean yes I do like being top-dog and its no better way of showing it than moving around town in a 6.2 Liter V8 with a bonafide 2016 Cadillac emblem firmly affixed to the front (see photo). Actually all you really need is more like $95,000 to legally leave the lot with it hassle-free.
The real question is are we simply using this machine to simply move from point A to point B? Or do we make a statement just being behind he wheel? Does the Escalade hint at how we actually live, eat, dress? Is this “Sport Utility Vehicle An obvious statement?...one that clearly shows to what degree a life is being lived? After all this is Cadillac...an Escalade.
Since its introduction in 1999 the Cadillac Escalade has pretty much had the full-size luxury SUV market-segment on literal lock down. At least here in America its hard to mention the Luxury SUV in anyway and leave out the Escalade. The same exact way the Coupe DeVille & Fleetwood Brougham can onto the automotive scene...and took over. I mean yeah we all knew the 1st generation Escalade was little more than an undercover Denali. But it was that 2nd generation Escalade that brought about a change in the Sport Utility Market, indefinitely. The second generation is when many would say is when it became a household name.
So simply put the answer is yes (as I do want to leave the lot hassle-free with no Police involvement) since I do in fact have a statement to make as opposed to simply moving from point A to point B. Since as an upscale American I would like to leave an indelible impression each and every time I choose to move about. And the only way to successfully do that at least here in America is in an full-size luxury SUV, a 2016 Cadillac Escalade Platinum 4WD SUV.
