Founding Transportation - How Would George Washington Have Moved Around Washington D.C.

        
      Is it just me or is it every time you see George Washington he's on a boat?  So I started wondering what exactly would the 1st President have driven around Washington D.C. in if he'd had a choice? Right off the back I looked at the WIKI on George W. and realized he was a Cadillac man. I started to think "What would George move around Washington in? I mean after all this was the mid-to-late 1700's and things where very hectic, I mean you had people firing cannons every couple miles! Revolution was defining the country back then. Life was lived in between wars!
   
  Then it occurred to me George W. really wasn't a "Coupe De Ville" man so to speak.  George Washington, our 1st president wasn't joking he was forging a nation!I think he would've moved around Washington D.C. crisply handling his affairs in a Limousine! And since the political atmosphere was a bit touchy back then with war seemingly always going on and a "battle" it seemed could literally break out any minute it! So yes! It would have had to have been Bulletproof! ...didn't really have an answer for the 18' inch Swords everyone seemed to be carrying around leisurely.

        Our first president was a planner a leader he didn't really have the time to be driving around Washington D.C. under his own power. He was too busy avoiding assassins, giving speeches, keeping troops motivated ready for battle, which could actually happen at a moment's notice! He did have a real need for his vehicle to be manned at all times as things back then  did have a way of blowing up back then! In his case a driver would have actually been mandatory for safety reasons!
       George W. did take advantage of a time of peace and promptly married beautiful 28-Year Old Martha Dandridge Custis. By pure coincidence turns she was wealthy, who knew! Which meant George would have been forced to pick up a couple Corvettes to move around town sportingly with friends such as Ben Franklin, John Adams. It seems he spent his entire life at war! So a brightly colored H2 Hummer would only have been appropriate in the driveway back in Mt Vernon. Something he could safely go pick his wigs up in!        

      Eventually the Sun would  set and George W. would have had to put the presidency away, until the next day. So what exactly would G.W. drive around on a social basis? As it turns out Martha already had 2 kids when married her! Politically speaking as the very 1st president of the United  States he pretty much would had have to drive something  American.  So why not the epitome of American transportation, the Cadillac Escalade.

  The reality also is...that was a big dress Martha was seen to be wearing on a casual basis most of the time, as photos show. Afterall it was the 1700's...there simply weren't any small clothes, everyone was layered up! So I would think an SUV would be needed, since now that I think about it George and the kids would also have had on a couple layers and a possible an overcoat. So an Escalade with more than enough room for everyone to get in and get out and collect Firewood if necessary. A nice "colonial"  SUV would fit in well in a Mt. Vernon driveway. Something Martha could also take to the Flea market over in Pennsylvania on a Saturday morning.

     



    




  So it looks like it would have taken a few vehicles to move the very 1st president and his family around  and in between Washington D.C. and Mt Vernon...comfortably. The fact still remains he was the 1st president of the United States so I would have to imagine he also had a Kawasaki Ninja.
